Shoes that tighten themselves, 2029 AD
May 2029.
After considerable effort and red tape I came back from the largest mall in America.
Oh don't think the future is all that bright. Not much has changed except for the proliferation of solar panels on the roofs and a few more electric car makers, roads are the same with more tolls.
There are more gay and lesbians that greet the eye than normal.
This is one huge mall has plenty of small kiosks in the centre and side wings...
As mall go the only thing that stands out on this one is the carnival like feeling that comes from the sheer size and amusement machines. Sheer size together with the two 4 star hotels are the only things this mall has going for it.
The shops and stores offer the same thing as in 2015.
Ah!! but the gadgets. Cell phones that offer crude 3D images, Other phone models offer 9X10 inch screens that roll in/out, when the screens are rolled in they as big as a corona cigar.
The money to be made is not on these.
I was impressed with the shoe store. Right dead smack in the main entrance Seven stores in.
The sign said custom made "3D printed shoes in an hour" The holographic sign floated a few inches off the floor, it danced moved up down and changed fonts and language.
There I stood reading some regular printed poster inside the store front. "Never tie your shoes again. Proprietary shoes and app come in for a free demo." Even as I read a very young salesman with a very enthusiastic and contagious smile touched my fore arm, Said, "look at this..." He showed me his digital watch tapped it once, the display on the watch showed an image of the same shoes he was wearing and on the display window. H held up the same shoe on the display window.
He then shoved my hand into the shoe, tapped his watch there displayed Two circles of arrows one set facing out, the other circle of arrows pointing inward to themselves. The dress shoe tightened around my hand and wrist. The young man then press the other arrow set, the shoe released its grip on my wrist.... I thought wait didn't the movie 'Back to the Future' predict these?
Over all 2029 is off to a boring start.
The news marque on the t.v was giving the named storms. But the Closed captioning caught my eye. The car maker Tesla announced that all 2030 vehicles will feature a percosite based paint that will also double as solar cell to charge the cars while parked in the sun. Now that to me was interesting.
